We Went to Bonaire

We had a great trip to Bonaire this past June. We had a group of 18 that enjoyed the great weather and water of this wonderful island. Everything went well this time with no delays by the airlines. The divers and snorkelers got to see seahorses, frog fish, nudibranchs, lots of angelfish, a large sting ray and green moray as well as the fabulous coral reefs and tropical marine life. Captain Don's resort has been remodeled and the grounds couldn't have looked better. The people were helpful and friendly and I think everyone had a great time. Some of the unusual things were we meet and dove with the editor of several published books and a women that is among the diving elite and a member of the diving hall of fame. Evelyn Bartram Dudas is the first women to dive the wreck of the Andra Doria, a very advanced dive. She towed Scott Sanders around on her underwater scooter for one entire dive, that was quite a site.

The Best thing for our family was my son Jason proposed to his girlfriend underwater. Michelle Faraone did her certification dives the first 2 days we were on Bonaire. She lives in Arlington as does Jason, they have been dating for more than a year. Jason wanted to propose in a special way so we got the engagement ring on the island and found a shell to put it in. I placed the shell on a pink sponge on a dive site called "something special" and Jason swam over to it and wanted Michelle to pick it up. I quess she remembered she wasn't supposed to touch the reef so she wouldn't pick it up. Jason had to give it to her and open it up to expose the ring. Then he open his dive slate that he wrote "Will You Merry Me I Love You" She worte YES. We all were around and I got some great pictures. The dive masters were just as excited because that was a first for them too.
