News

Merry Christmas and I hope a Happy New Year to all.

This has been quite an eventful year. With my father passing away in February and several trips to Kansas this year to settle things with the family farm. Which will probably take a few more trips next year to finally get everything in order. Then the drought drained Lake Travis so we had to use Mammoth lake for check out dives, which worked out OK because the visibility started out around 25ft and stayed around 15 ft even into September. The only problem was we couldn't do any deep dives at Mammoth. Our trip to Bonaire in June was great and produced an unexpected surprise when my son Jason proposed to his girl friend Michelle under water on one of our dives. Now we are helping with the wedding plans for next June in Hawaii. My younger son Nathan moved back home in August to help him get his finances back in order. Also Peggy and I decided to do some remodeling to our house which has been difficult to say the least. We are wanting to get our ducks in a row so I can possibly retire from the Post office next year. But it's been like herding ducks, when you think you've got them, they all scatter in different directions. One project has lead to another and another etc. I'm still hopeful we can get things done on schedule. Anyway we are looking forward to a exciting 2012. We will start off with a New Year dive at Comal River. I plan to start classes in March. Then Jason & Michelle's wedding on Kauai  June 2. We may get in a few dives there but it won't be a dive trip. With most of our time and $ going to that we will only be able to do a Cozumel trip July 8 -12. I hope we can have a good group for the Cozumel trip to help out Bill Horn at Aqua Safari for his gracious handling of our trip last October that was cut short by a hurricane. If you can't make that trip and want us to work on one for you we will be happy to help any way we can, just let us know the dates and where and how much and we can try to find you a good dive trip.

New Year Dive

A great way to start off the year is with a dive in the cool waters of the Comal river. While the water temperature of everything else is around 50 degrees the Comal is a balmy 68 degrees. A 3mm suit is just fine and the water is clear with lots to see. We will meet on January 1st at Landa Park in New Braunsfel at 11am, or you can meet us at the Shell station in Nursery at 9am and follow us to the park. The dive is a slow drift dive with lots of critters and stuff to find. After the dive, if you can, we will meet at a restaurant for some warm food and dive stories. A good way to make some new dive buddies. If you need any gear let me know, I don't charge any rental fees for this dive. If you are not one to brave the water at this time of the year it's OK we do allow surface support too. We all have a good time.

Hotel Cozumel is a great resort. It has the largest swimming pool on the island, it's own private beach, 2 restaurants and 3 bars, dive lockers close to their dock and the resort is within easy walking distance to town and local shopping. They also plan several activities through out the week and can help you arrange any tours you may want to do on your surface time. The Diving in Cozumel is with out equal. It is drift diving so you don't have to kick much to fly around the prolific reefs. The visibility is the best you will see anywhere and the marine life is as good as it gets.
